Dollar General Truck Driver Reviews: SAFER File, Pay

A Dollar General seat is not a drop-and-hook mega-carrier rumor. Careers copy sells a private fleet from distribution centers to neighborhood stores. The work on the posting is multi-stop freight you unload — rolltainers at tight back rooms — plus miles, stop pay, and a SAFER file that does not list under the words “Dollar General.” Look up D G Logistics LLC in Goodlettsville before you treat a store-brand job board as Costco-style hourly depot work or a no-touch Walmart card.
Pay, home time, and online ratings move. Verify current figures with Dollar General Fleet recruiting, on Indeed, and on the FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot. Rules change. Verify current requirements at fmcsa.dot.gov before you act on anything in this guide.
Dollar General safety record: what FMCSA data shows
Start with the federal file. People searching “Dollar General SAFER” or “Dollar General DOT number” will miss the motor carrier if they stop at the store brand. On the Company Snapshot pulled for this article, USDOT 852587 is D G Logistics LLC at 100 Mission Ridge, Goodlettsville, TN 37072, phone (615) 855-4000. Entity type: carrier / broker. USDOT status: ACTIVE. Out-of-service date: none. Authority: authorized as a motor carrier of property (except household goods) and a broker of property (except household goods) under MC-375285. Operation classification on that card is authorized for-hire, interstate. If a recruiter or job board hands you a different number, stop.
The same snapshot — FMCSA systems dated 09/10/2026 — lists 2,284 power units and 2,208 drivers. MCS-150 mileage is 129,677,770 for 2025, form date 05/21/2026. Cargo checkboxes include general freight and refrigerated food. That matches a retail fleet feeding stores from DCs, including fresh.
U.S. roadside inspections, 24 months before 09/10/2026: 2,121 total. Vehicle 908 inspections, 150 out of service (16.5%). Driver 2,121 inspections, 22 out of service (1%). Hazmat 44 inspections, 0 out of service (0%). National averages printed on that snapshot (table dated 08/28/2026) are 22.26% vehicle, 6.67% driver, 4.44% hazmat. Vehicle and driver OOS both sit under the printed averages. Hazmat is a small sample — do not treat a 0% line as a fleet grade.
U.S. crashes, same window: 8 fatal, 54 injury, 94 tow, 156 total. FMCSA counts involvement in reportable crashes without a determination of responsibility. A fleet this size will show volume. Read the current file yourself.
Canada on the same snapshot: 0 inspections and 0 crashes in 24 months. Do not invent a Canadian average.
Safety rating: None. Rating date: none. Review date: none. Type: none. A blank rating is common on carriers that have not been through a ratable compliance review. It is not a Satisfactory stamp and not a failing grade. Walk the fields with our SAFER score company lookup.
A SAFER name search for “Dollar General” returned no records. “D G Logistics” found D G Logistics LLC, USDOT 852587, Goodlettsville. Same-campus lookalike DG Logistics, LLC, USDOT 5267901, 100 Mission Ridge Dr, Goodlettsville, showed ACTIVE status, NOT AUTHORIZED for-hire authority, private (property), 2,319 power units, 2,208 drivers, MCS-150 mileage 0, and 0 U.S. inspections on the 09/10/2026 snapshot (VMT marked outdated). That is not the operating for-hire file. USDOT 105129 for Dollar General Corporation is inactive. Dozens of other “DG Logistics” names sit in other states. Open SAFER by 852587 and confirm 100 Mission Ridge.
Who Dollar General’s fleet actually is
Dollar General is a discount retailer that runs its own fleet from DCs to stores (careers.dollargeneral.com/fleet). Headquarters is Goodlettsville. Careers copy listed 31 private fleet sites and 2,000+ drivers. The Class A seat this article covers is the fleet driver: on-time freight between distribution centers, stores, and vendors, including unloading multi-stop freight and rolltainers and returning empties to the DC.
That is the product, not a Walmart-style no-touch rumor and not a Costco hourly depot card. Same private-fleet genre as Walmart truck driver reviews and Costco truck driver reviews — different size, different pay math, different physical work. SAFER still marks USDOT 852587 authorized for-hire, not private-property. Careers can say “private fleet” while the federal file shows for-hire authority. Ask which legal name is on the truck.
The Fulton, Missouri, listing used here named the DC at 1900 Cardinal Dr., Fulton, MO 65251, with the Indeed location tagged Bridgeton, Missouri. Hiring bars on that post: Class A, age 21, at least 1 year of experience, no more than one moving violation or accident in the past 3 years, and paid unloading at each delivery site. Requirements change. Verify current hiring bars with the DC that would actually dispatch you.
Do not confuse Dollar General Fleet company drivers with a contractor running DG freight under another USDOT. If the W-2 or settlement says another legal name, you are not on 852587.
Pay: mileage, stops, and unload — verify current
Dollar General’s public Class A listing paid by the mile, with stop and unload pay on top. The figures below are from public posts when this article was researched. Rates change by DC, tenure, route, and bonus. Verify current pay for your role — base CPM, stop pay, unload pay, the “$100,000” ceiling, training day rate, and whether the seat is company DG or a dedicated contractor — in writing.
- Fulton, Missouri, Class A (Indeed listing, Dollar General Fleet): $0.72–$0.76 per mile. Body copy: 72–76 CPM, home weekly, “up to $100,000 per year with 2 years of experience,” mile and stop pay, paid unloading. Training: $200 per day while you train (CDL-A required). Quarterly safety bonus (amount not published on that post). 401(k): match on the first 5% after 1 year plus 1 quarter. Benefits listed day 1: BCBS medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability, life. Pet rider and passenger ride-along. Apply path on the post: Dollar General Fleet / Indeed.
- Other Indeed “Dollar General Fleet” CPM cards in the same search: Hand, Michigan, $0.67–$0.71 per mile, home weekly; other DCs reused the $0.72–$0.76 band. Annual headline ads also showed $83,000, $87,000, $92,000, and $105,000 by city. Treat those as recruiting ceilings, not a guaranteed W-2.
- Careers fleet page: “$90K annual earning potential for our Drivers,” plus mileage-based pay, unload pay, and safety incentive pay. No CPM on that marketing page.
- TheTruckersReport salary box: $769–$2,200 per week (displayed average $1,405) on a small survey set. Board surveys included $1,923 (Indiana), $1,450 (San Antonio), $1,800 (Blair, Nebraska), $840 (Texas), and $1,654 (Walton, Kentucky). Those are self-reported, not the Fulton posting.
- Indeed salary page for “Truck Driver” at Dollar General: about $200 per day from 556 postings, last updated 09/03/2026, displayed low $100 / high $300, 12% below Indeed’s national truck-driver average. That cut can mix yard, store, and CDL titles. Do not treat it as the Class A fleet floor.
There is no public hourly Class A card on the company fleet posts pulled here the way Costco posted Morris. The product is miles + stops + unload. If the trailer is stacked poorly or the store cannot take freight, the check moves. A Berkeley, Missouri, regional write-up (07/07/2026) called benefits good and still said heavy lifting in snow was not worth the pay. An Atlanta Class A note (07/17/2025) said you can make good money and still warned the warehouse running behind “messes with YOUR pay.” Verify current pay for your DC.
What drivers actually say — including why people quit
Public review pages are not a verdict, and Dollar General’s company-wide stars are not the fleet. Indeed’s Dollar General page filtered to Truck Driver, updated 09/01/2026, listed 181 truck-driver write-ups. The 2.9 out of 5 headline on that scrape sat on 42,857 company-wide reviews — stores, DCs, and office mixed in. Do not quote 42,000 stars as driver sentiment. Indeed’s own likes on the filtered page: personal appreciation, ability to learn, meeting personal goals. Areas flagged: fair pay, belonging, overall satisfaction.
TheTruckersReport’s Dollar General Fleet page sat at 1.9 out of 5 on 17 reviews, with a displayed weekly range of $769–$2,200. That sample is small. Weigh recent titles, not the store brand.
The stay-or-quit split on driver-titled write-ups is consistent, and autocomplete “quit” is not a mystery once you read the job:
- Miles, equipment, and home time are why people stay. Recurring notes: company trucks and fuel, “nice mileage,” home every night on some local/regional cuts, a way to get CDL experience, paid training. A CDL title on Indeed was “Pretty good company if you don’t mind unloading the rolltainers. Home every night.” A San Antonio TTR note (03/11/2025) thanked DG for hiring without experience, lasted three years at Fresh San Antonio, and left for family reasons — still calling unload the hard part.
- Unload, dispatch, and pay versus labor are why people leave or tell others to run. Titles include “Run,” “It’s a trap,” “Terrible company for drivers,” “Physically demanding chaotic loads,” and “Pay not adequate to the amount of work.” Bessemer, Alabama: heavy-touch freight, unloading rolltainers at tight stores. Another Class A note called driving, unloading, and reloading three jobs. TTR (01/09/2025) described living in the parking lot to make money, dispatch “power trip,” small loads as punishment, and physical demand on dry and fresh. A November 2025 TTR former-employee post said the last check was a penny after low miles and reported on-the-job injuries with no fix — one attributed rant, not a court finding.
- Stores and DCs vary. Atlanta DC management and a warehouse “always behind” show up next to “new builds are by far the easiest.” Blair, Nebraska, and other terminals are not interchangeable. Ask which yard is hiring.
Drug tests: autocomplete also surfaces “drug test.” Interstate CDL work is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing; a refusal or verified positive is a federal issue, not a store-policy rumor — see fmcsa.dot.gov. Dollar General’s careers site routes conditional job offers through a screening login. The Truck Driver Indeed filter pulled for this article did not return a usable cluster of drug-test write-ups. Do not invent a DG-specific panel, wait time, or fail rate. Ask recruiting what they run after a conditional offer.

Who a Dollar General seat fits — and how to vet it
Dollar General tends to fit a CDL-A driver who will live near a DG DC, accept multi-stop store delivery, and unload rolltainers in weather for mileage, stop, and unload pay — and who wants weekly (or some nightly) home time more than no-touch OTR. The Fulton listing is one DC. Bessemer, San Antonio Fresh, Atlanta, Blair, Berkeley, and Janesville show up on jobs and reviews as other yards. Ask which legal name is on the truck.
Look elsewhere if you will not unload by hand, you need drop-and-hook only, you want a published hourly depot card, you will not live near the DC, or you will not re-open SAFER the week you would start. Compare other private-fleet and carrier files in our trucking company reviews hub rather than picking a dollar-store logo.
- Confirm the legal name and USDOT. D G Logistics LLC, Goodlettsville, 852587. Not 5267901, not inactive 105129, not a contractor “dedicated DG” ad.
- Re-open the SAFER snapshot the week you would start. Authority, vehicle OOS, driver OOS, crashes, and the blank rating. Use the SAFER lookup walkthrough.
- Get pay in writing. CPM for that DC, stop pay, unload pay, a slow-week example, training day rate, and the 401(k) clock.
- Name the work. Multi-stop DC-to-store, rolltainers, live unloads, possible early or late docks — not a sleeper 48-state board.
- Cross-check people, not just the brand. Indeed’s truck-driver filter, TTR’s small sample, and a carrier search on cdlscan. cdlscan is two-sided — carriers review drivers, and you can research the house — and search does not require buying a full report. It will not replace SAFER or the offer letter.
If you have already run for Dollar General’s fleet, add a review on cdlscan so the next applicant is not guessing from a store careers page. Search is free; a full report is paid. Neither one replaces looking up USDOT 852587.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dollar General a good company to drive for?
It depends whether you want DC-to-store work with rolltainer unloads, mileage plus stop and unload pay, and home weekly — and whether that DC actually loads and dispatches. USDOT 852587 shows active for-hire authority, no safety rating on file, and vehicle out-of-service under the national average printed on that snapshot. Indeed’s truck-driver filter is 181 write-ups, not the 42,000-review company score. Verify current pay and home time for your DC.
What is Dollar General’s USDOT number?
On the snapshot used here, D G Logistics LLC in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, is USDOT 852587, MC-375285. Confirm the number on the truck matches 852587. USDOT 5267901 is a same-address file without for-hire authority. USDOT 105129 is inactive.
How much do Dollar General truck drivers make?
The Fulton, Missouri, Class A listing posted $0.72–$0.76 per mile and “up to $100,000” with two years. Careers copy listed $90K potential. TTR’s box ran $769–$2,200 a week on a small survey. Rates change; get the current package in writing for your DC.
Do Dollar General drivers unload the truck?
Yes on the public fleet copy. Careers and the Fulton posting both say drivers unload freight and rolltainers at stores and return empties to the DC. That physical work is the main quit theme on Indeed and TTR. Ask whether your lane is live unload or something else.
Does Dollar General hire new CDL drivers?
The Fulton listing required at least 1 year of experience. Careers also advertise an internal Class A program after a 90-day tenure in any DG job, in good standing, with schooling paid — then a driver seat on completion. That is not the same as walking in off the street with a new CDL. Verify current hiring bars with the DC.
Why do Dollar General truck drivers quit?
Public titles cluster on unload labor, chaotic loads, tight stores, dispatch, and pay that does not match the physical work. Some drivers stay for miles, equipment, and home time. Autocomplete “quit” matches that split. It is not a court finding.
Does Dollar General drug test truck drivers?
CDL interstate drivers are subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing. Careers routes conditional offers through a screening login. The truck-driver Indeed filter used here did not cluster on a unique DG drug-test story. Ask recruiting what they require after a conditional offer. Do not invent a panel.
Is Dollar General a private fleet?
Careers calls it a private fleet feeding stores from DCs. SAFER still lists USDOT 852587 as authorized for-hire (and broker). USDOT 5267901 at the same campus is marked private property and not authorized for-hire. Read the card, not the marketing headline.
How do I look up Dollar General on SAFER?
Do not search the brand and stop — that search returned no records. Open FMCSA’s Company Snapshot for USDOT 852587 and confirm D G Logistics LLC at 100 Mission Ridge, Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Read authority, inspections, crashes, and the rating line — which showed None on the snapshot used here.
